Complete Prayer System

Our pastor is away at a pastor’s conference, and he asked me to write his Monday Morning Review (his weekly blog) this week. I consider it an honor and a privilege when I’m permitted to do so.

In the past, I’ve taken a few liberties, but I’ve always been invited for a return engagement. This one, however, may get me fired from my substitute blogger job: Pastor Eric’s Complete Prayer System.

I may have had a little too much fun at his (and other pastors who employ acronyms as sermon tools) expense.

Top 50-Official and Unofficial

In case anyone missed it, like me until today, the Biblioblog Top 50 for December is out, officially and unofficially.

Personally, I prefer the unofficial rankings which have BOB at 11 (down 5 slots from #6 in November), while the official rankings have me at 17 (-11). Considering I took 3 weeks off in December, I can live with either.

I’m Back

It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to post anything. Between work, campaign stuff, church, family, and infrequent internet access, blogging has taken a back seat. I’m looking forward to getting back in the groove, though.

I appreciate everyone continuing to comment and read (traffic was surprisingly steady), thanks. I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and wonderful new year.

2000 Comments

Thanks to Matt @ Broadcast Depth for BOB‘s 2000th comment on Not Exactly the Holiday Inn.

I haven’t been near a computer for a few days, so I’m glad I didn’t miss it. But, since I didn’t realize it was approaching so quickly, I didn’t have the confetti and balloons ready. I’m sorry, Matt.

So, to honor Matt for the 2000th comment, please check out his excellent blog.

Say It Ain’t So

Word from above is that the Biblioblog Top 50 list, in its current form at least, is history.

It was a good run and fun while it lasted. I must admit, I’ll miss the ol’ gal. Oh well, to quote the immortal Bobby Bowden, “nothing lasts forever.”

What really irritates me, though, is that now I have to go and find all those dead links on my blog. Shoot!

An Old Friend’s Blog

This is sort of random, but through the wonder that is facebook, I discovered the blog of my high school band director, Jimcude’s blog.

Side note: yes, I was in the band. I actually went to a high school that was small enough you could play football and still be in the band.

It appears to be a relatively new blog, a faith-intersects-life kind of blog. I encourage you to show him a little love and check it out.

Giveaway: 22 Volume Calivin Commentary

My blogging buddy Bryan Lopez (no relation) who blogs at, appropriately enough, bryanlopez.com, is giving away a 22 Volume Calvin Commentary.

I know that many of you are Calvinist and proud, so I encourage you guys to check out Bryan’s blog and contest and enter. I really dig Bryan and his blog, and his organization sounds like a worthy venture. However, I’m not entirely sure I would have a happy holidays if I brought home a 22 volume encyclopedia-like set (my wife might freak out-we are bursting at the seams with books as it is).

So I am happy to promote Bryan’s contest, but I regrettably will not be entering the contest. The contest is simple, just post about it and/or befriend his organization on facebook to enter. Good luck!

Two Types of Typos-I Really Hate One

I understand typos. I don’t like them, but I’m guilty of committing them, so I get them.

But, as I see it, there are two types: (1) the typo that looks like a typo (e.g., teh blatant missed keustroke), and (2) the typo that makes the writer look like an idiot. Last Friday, I was guilty of the latter. But I’m not an idiot (not for this reason, anyway), I just didn’t catch it until this morning.

I wrote:

This past summer, my blogging buddy Joel and I engaged in a friendly discussion about whether there will or will not be and end-times revival.

The correction in the original has been made, but it sat there all weekend. So, to you grammarians out there, I apologize. I have already kicked myself in the teeth repeatedly.

In the future, feel free to catch my mistakes for me and drop me a line correcting me. Thanks.
