I Can Smell Football in the Air, Ahhh!
August 3, 2009 9 Comments
For any of you who aren’t my friends on facebook, I just updated my status as follows:
“Peter M Lopez can smell football season in the air, ahhh. I expect Texas to win the national championship, narrowly defeating Notre Dame 35-34 in the championship game, and the Dallas Cowboys to win the Superbowl.”
This would, of course, be my dream scenario…but, for the first time in many, many years, this is not such a laughable possibility.
So, what does this have to do with the Bible? Well, let’s see, having been born and raised Catholic, “Touchdown Jesus” is iconic. The only acceptable defeat for the Irish would be to the Texas Longhorns. “Touchdown Jesus” is also perhaps the greatest legend in football…
…second only to the hole in the roof of Texas Stadium so God can watch the Cowboys.
So, there you have it.

Every time we sing “Hallelujah Jesus” in church, the only thing I can think of is “Touchdown Jesus”. Pretty sad… then again, I’ve had the “pleasure” of being in Notre Dame Stadium for a ND/USC game!
Go Steelers!
I’m jealous.
That picture of the Cowboys Stadium is a little outdated now.
It is, but that’s where the legend was born, but God will be able to watch in the new stadium as well.
Peter, did you go to Texas or are you just a fan? I was raised in Houston, so I’m curious
The first Thanksgiving Brandon was in Fort Worth, Ron and I got Cowboy tickets for the family. Great time!
I almost went to Texas. Actually, I went to a small private school just north in Georgetown, Southwestern Univ. It was close enough. And, yes, Cowboys games are great fun.
Being a Saints fan, I can’t say I am hoping for a Cowboys Super Bowl win, but I am with on the Longhorns!
The Saints? Do they still have an NFL team?
Just kidding. I like Brees, he’s an Austin boy. He should have been a Longhorn. Thanks.
